In line with the Bombay High Court’s directive in Public Interest Litigation No. 155/2011, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has launched an intensive campaign to remove unauthorized banners, posters, hoardings, and flags across its jurisdiction.
Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, a total of 1085 posters, 2867 banners, 19 hoardings, and 246 flags were removed in December 2024 as part of the ongoing cleanup effort.
To regulate the installation of temporary banners, the authority has been delegated to the concerned ward officers. Since the beginning of 2025, cases have been filed against 27 individuals for violating the provisions of the Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1995, by installing unauthorized banners.
Deputy Commissioner of the Unauthorized Construction Control Department, Avadhut Tawde, has urged citizens and political parties to seek proper permission from the relevant ward offices before displaying banners in the municipal area. He emphasized that the campaign to remove unauthorized displays will continue and urged cooperation from all parties to maintain the aesthetics and cleanliness of the area.
He further said, “KDMC remains committed to maintaining public spaces free from unauthorized advertisements and encouraging lawful practices for temporary installations”.
