KDMC to develop parks for senior citizens’ recreation

Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) will develop parks and recreational spaces in various areas of the municipal corporation, specifically for the well-being and enjoyment of senior citizens, announced Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar. The announcement was made during a two-day event organized at P.K. Atre Rangmandir in Kalyan West, held on October 4th and 5th, in honour of Senior Citizens Day.

Dr. Jakhar emphasized the importance of creating more recreational opportunities for senior citizens, along with providing access to government schemes such as the Vyoshree and Chief Minister Tirtha Darshan Yojana. “We are committed to ensuring that senior citizens have access to dedicated spaces for relaxation and social activities within the city’s parks,” she stated during the event's inauguration.

In addition to park development, the program also focused on health awareness, with expert doctors from Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, providing valuable insights into health issues faced by the elderly. Dr. Jayesh Sardhara, a neurosurgeon, spoke about brain disorders and their treatments, while Dr. Rishabh Cheda, a microneurosurgeon, and Dr. Zakia Khan, a heart specialist, gave advice on preventing heart disease. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Swapnil Keni discussed the causes and treatment of joint pain. The hospital's nursing staff also presented a skit demonstrating emergency first-aid techniques.

Senior citizens were also honoured during the event. Deputy Commissioner of Social Development Department, Sanjay Jadhav, awarded certificates and mementos to representatives of senior citizen associations and office bearers of the coordination committee in Kalyan, in recognition of their contributions.

The event saw speeches from prominent figures, including Yashwant Karpukar, Welfare Officer of the Senior Citizens Coordinating Committee, Mahadev Dhokle, Chairman of ISKCON, and Vilas Kale, Chairman of Konkan Regional Division Facecom. Additional Commissioner Harshal Gaikwad and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Brand Ambassador Dr. Prashant Patil also addressed the gathering.

Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Jadhav provided detailed information on the government’s Vayoshri and Chief Minister Tirtha Darshan Yojana, encouraging senior citizens to take full advantage of these welfare programs.

Adding a cultural touch to the event, narrator Samir Limaye captivated the audience by reciting Samarth Ramdas’s "Dasbodh" in simple language. The event concluded with a soulful rendition of "Pasaydan," sung by narrator Mahesh Deshpande, Information and Public Relations Officer Madhavi Pofale, and Shruti Kanitkar.

This program, which also included contributions from members of the Dombivli Senior Citizen Coordination Committee, underlined KDMC's commitment to improving the quality of life for senior citizens through both recreational and health initiatives.
