KDMC’s meeting with National Safai Karamchari Commission focuses on sanitation workers’ welfare

A key meeting was held at the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) with Dr. P.P. Vava, a member of the National Safai Karamchari Commission, alongside Advisor Giridhar Nath and Coordinator Sandeep Charan. The meeting, which took place in the Standing Committee Hall at the Municipal Headquarters, aimed to address various ongoing issues faced by sanitation workers.

Dr. Vava and his team expressed satisfaction with the information presented by the Municipal Corporation regarding the concerns of sanitation workers. The meeting was attended by several senior municipal officials, including Harshal Gaikwad (Additional Commissioner - 1), Yogesh Godse (Additional Commissioner - 2), Vandana Gulve (Deputy Commissioner), Atul Patil, Sanjay Jadhav (Deputy Commissioner, Information and Public Relations), along with representatives from various trade unions.

Deputy Commissioner of General Administration Department, Vandana Gulve, provided a detailed PPT presentation outlining the various facilities provided to sanitation workers by the Municipal Corporation. She shared positive news that in 2024-25, 69 sanitation workers were promoted to the post of Mukadam, 11 to the position of Sanitary Inspector, 17 to the role of Clerk, and 8 to the post of Accounts Clerk. These promotions were based on the workers' educational qualifications.

In a significant move to address the challenges faced by sanitation workers, Sunil Bagul, the Labour Welfare Officer, has been authorized to organize a monthly Safai Mitra Darbar on the fourth Tuesday of every month. This initiative aims to provide a platform for sanitation workers to voice their concerns and seek resolutions for their problems in a timely manner. A circular has been issued to this effect, which was also shared during the meeting.

The municipal officials expressed their commitment to resolving the concerns of sanitation workers, ensuring their welfare, and creating a more efficient and responsive system for their benefit.

Dr. Vava and his team praised the steps taken by the Municipal Corporation and assured continued cooperation to address any outstanding issues affecting sanitation workers.
