Renowned Ghazal singer Ranjan Devnath, also known as ‘Ranj’, is set to make history by performing a 30-hour live Ghazal concert in aid of cancer patients and underprivileged students. The mega musical event will take place at the Godrej Dance Theatre, NCPA, Nariman Point, commencing on Sunday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until Monday, February 10, at 10:00 p.m.
This groundbreaking concert, likely the first of its kind in Mumbai, is presented by the Jalota Welfare Foundation in collaboration with Union Bank of India.
A devoted follower of Padma Shri Ghazal Samrat Anup Jalota, Ranjan Devnath will present a series of 12 shows, each lasting 2 hours with a 30-minute break in between.
The performances, titled Ranjan Sangeet-Ghazal, Bhajan, and Nazm, will feature popular Ghazals as a tribute to Sir Ratan Tata. The event aims to raise funds for cancer patients and underprivileged students, with Ranjan’s second book on Ghazals, "Muskuraane ke din aagaye", being released during the concert.
The show will be inaugurated by renowned urologist Dr. Anil Bradoo. Ranjan, who has been singing Ghazals for over 36 years, is a prolific writer, lyricist, and composer, with more than 2000 Ghazals and 50 Bhajans to his name.
He is also the creator of Ranjan Sangeet, a unique genre that includes a fusion of Ghazals and Bhajans called GhaBhan. In 2019, he set a World Record by singing his own composed Ghazals for 27 hours in Kolkata. This time, he aims to break his own record with a 30-hour performance.
Ranjan’s musical creations focus on mental wellness and aim to raise awareness about Ghazal music among today’s youth. Donor passes for the event are available at the venue for Rs. 200.
