Kharghar residents outraged as PMC staff caught dumping garbage improperly

Residents of Kharghar have expressed outrage after a shocking incident involving Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) staff members dumping garbage irresponsibly came to light. The incident, captured in a viral photograph shared on social media by concerned citizen Prasanna Mehta, has sparked widespread concerns about the accountability of municipal services.

The photograph shows a PMC truck parked near a water body in Kharghar, its mechanical arm—meant for waste collection—lowered to dump waste into the surroundings. The truck’s logo is clearly visible, further highlighting the negligence. The area, located at Vastu Vihar, Sector 18, is now littered with garbage, contrary to the workers’ responsibility of ensuring cleanliness.

Sharing the image on social media, Mehta tweeted, “Please look at your staff, who are shamelessly throwing garbage instead of cleaning it. Pathetic! Requesting you to kindly clear this garbage as soon as possible and keep natural surroundings clean.” The tweet was directed at the official PMC handle.

Residents have voiced their concerns, demanding immediate action. Kalpana Sharma, a local from Vasant Vihar, stated, “This is absolutely shocking. We expect our authorities to maintain cleanliness, not add to the problem. The environmental impact is undeniable.”

Dipesh Makhija, another resident of Sector 18, emphasized, “We rely on PMC for clean and safe surroundings, especially with our proximity to natural areas. This highlights a serious lack of accountability. Stricter monitoring and better waste management practices are urgently needed.”
