Koperkhairane resident Advocate Rupali Sunil Kakade recently presented a captivating performance of “Powada,” the traditional Marathi ballad, in a solo dance form on a national platform. Her performance took place at the 7th National Conference of the All India Federation of Women Lawyers (AIFWL) held in Bangalore in September 2024, fulfilling her long-cherished dream to bring this folk art to a wider audience.
Advocate Kakade performed the “Hirkani Powada” at the prestigious Vidhan Bhavan Auditorium (Vidhan Soudha), captivating an audience of 1,200 delegates, including women lawyers from across the country. Her performance was choreographed by NrityaSagar dance academy, and she received commendations from attendees for her stage presence. Justice Kumudini, a judge from the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, specifically applauded her impressive presentation.
"This was a golden moment in the history of Maharashtra’s folk culture," said Advocate Kakade. "I have been extensively studying Powada and aimed to elevate it to a glamorous level, similar to 'Lavani.' This performance marked my first stage appearance in front of national and international delegates."
With plans to popularize Powada beyond India, Advocate Kakade is working on a project to further promote this traditional art form globally.
