The ongoing issue of pending salaries for contractual workers employed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will be resolved soon, assured Labour Minister Akash Fundkar. He directed NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde to take swift action to address the grievances of the workers.
A meeting was held at the Labour Minister’s office to discuss the salary concerns of around 8,000 contractual sanitation workers and 1,008 daily wage workers under NMMC.
Key figures, including former MP and labour union president Sanjeev Naik, Principal Secretary of the Labour Department I.A. Kundan, and NMMC Commissioner Kailas Shinde, along with representatives from various labour unions and officials from the labour department, attended the meeting.
To address the issue, the NMMC Commissioner has formed a special committee to thoroughly review the salary matters of the workers. The committee’s findings will soon be submitted to the municipal corporation. Minister Fundkar assured that a permanent resolution would be implemented based on the committee’s recommendations.
Fundkar emphasized that the salary issues of the workers are closely tied to the financial condition of NMMC, urging the commissioner to approach the matter with empathy and sensitivity toward the workers’ concerns.
The decisions taken during the meeting have brought renewed hope to thousands of workers who have been awaiting their dues for an extended period. The resolution of this issue is expected to bring relief and much-needed financial stability to the workers.
