Lemon prices surge amid soaring summer heat

top-news

Navi Mumbai : As temperatures rise, lemon prices in Navi Mumbai have doubled due to soaring demand and reduced supply. Once sold at Rs 20 for six, lemons now cost Rs 60 for the same quantity, with individual prices ranging from Rs 6 to Rs 10.

In the APMC wholesale market, daily lemon arrivals have dropped to 600–750 quintals. Wholesale rates have surged to Rs 2,500–4,000 per quintal, depending on size and quality.

Traders say the price hike, typically seen in May, has arrived early this year. “Production is down due to poor flowering last season,” said Anvar Ansari, a trader.

Retailer Mahadev Chavan noted that despite the price increase, demand remains high, as lemons are essential for making summer drinks.
