Mahape-MIDC flooding due to diversion of natural drain, says social activist

Navi Mumbai: Social activist and former corporator Namdev Daurkar has vehemently criticized the MIDC authority for the flooding in the Mahape-MIDC area following torrential rains since Saturday morning. According to Daurkar, the change in the course of the natural drain is the main reason for the flooding in the area.

The heavy rains not only caused severe waterlogging on the main road of Mahape-MIDC but also created significant inconvenience for factories and hotels as rainwater entered the facilities.

Daurkar stated, “I had previously lodged complaints with the MIDC authorities about the blocked drain. Despite these warnings, the administration’s negligence led to severe hardships for hotel staff, guests, and local drivers. The heavy rain from Friday late evening left the area submerged, resulting in significant financial losses and disruption to both public and private transport.”

“Due to the filling of the drain in front of the petrol pump at Mahape Junction, the water is not draining properly. We have complained to the MIDC many times about this. However, the administration has been ignoring it,” stated Daurkar.
