top-news

With the rise in cyber fraud and criminal activities linked to digital platforms across Maharashtra, the state has taken a significant step to bolster its defenses. The Maharashtra Home Department has launched the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project, headquartered at Millennium Business Park in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, to tackle the growing digital threat landscape using state-of-the-art technology and expedited investigative processes.

The project, which commenced operations on October 15, 2024, is a collaborative effort involving L&T Technology Services and M/s KPMG Assurance and Consulting Services. It aims to establish a robust cyber security framework, enhancing the state’s ability to detect, investigate, and respond to crimes that exploit modern technologies.

The initiative features four specialized centres dedicated to combating cybercrime effectively:

1. Technical Support Centre

2. Technology Support Analysis Centre

3. CERT Maharashtra

4. Training Centre

These centres will work together to improve crime detection and response capabilities while providing continuous training to law enforcement personnel, ensuring timely and efficient handling of cyber incidents.

Project Highlights:

Advanced Technology Implementation: The Maharashtra Cyber Security Project boasts a dedicated command and control centre that incorporates over 50 global forensic technologies. Additionally, it utilizes 17 threat intelligence tools and 13 cyber security tools, including artificial intelligence and blockchain technology, supported by a team of more than 150 cybercrime forensics and technology experts.

Statewide Coordination: The project facilitates coordination between 51 established cyber laboratories and 43 cyber police stations throughout Maharashtra. These facilities will receive ongoing technological support and resources from the project's headquarters to enhance their operational effectiveness.

Comprehensive Infrastructure: Key components of the project include a Command and Control Centre, TechnologyAssisted Investigation units, a Centre of Excellence, CERT Maharashtra, a CloudBased Data Centre, and a Security Operation Centre. All cyber police stations across various districts have been integrated into this comprehensive framework.

24/7 Helpline for Citizens: The Maharashtra Cyber Security Project features a dedicated helpline—14407—available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Citizens can register complaints related to cybercrime via this helpline, a mobile app, or the project’s online portal. This streamlined reporting process aims to facilitate thorough investigations and enhance the prosecution of cybercriminals.
