In honour of the birth anniversary of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, the Maharashtra government is launching the Hinduhrudyasamarat Balasaheb Thackeray Swachchha Sundar Bas Sthanak Abhiyan on January 23, 2025. The campaign, conceptualized by Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will focus on improving cleanliness, beauty, and infrastructure at all State Transport (ST) bus depots across Maharashtra.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik made the announcement, revealing that the campaign will offer prizes worth Rs.3 crore. Notably, the first bus station in the state to achieve the highest standards will win Rs.1 crore. The initiative will be officially launched at the Kurla Nehru Nagar bus station by Minister Sarnaik, and will see the involvement of school students, social workers, and ST employees in the cleanliness drive.
Minister Sarnaik said, “This campaign aims to transform bus stations into spaces that are clean, beautiful, and well-maintained, with the active participation of the community.” Last year, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had stressed that it was the primary duty of the ST Corporation to provide clean and attractive bus stations, including sanitary toilets for passengers.”
The objective of the initiative is to enhance bus depots through community involvement, following the concept of Aapal Gaon Aapal Bus Sthanak (Our Village, Our Bus Depot). Minister Sarnaik further encouraged village youth groups, women's self-help groups, and social organizations to contribute to this beautification effort.
The year-long campaign will involve quarterly evaluations of bus stations across three categories: urban 'A' class, semi-urban 'B' class, and rural 'C' class. Regional competitions will determine the top bus stations in each group, culminating in a state-level competition. The best stations in each category will be awarded as follows Rs. 1 crore for the best bus station in 'A' category. Rs. 50 lakh for the best in 'B' category. Rs. 25 lakh for the best in 'C' category
The campaign will officially be launched at 11 AM on January 23 at Kurla Nehru Nagar Bus Stand.
