Maharashtra State Teachers’ Union urges NMMC to address key issues

The Maharashtra State Teachers' Union has formally appealed to the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Dr. Kailas Shinde, to prioritize critical demands affecting secondary school teachers during a recent meeting. The meeting was attended by Provincial President of the Teachers' Union and officials, including MLA J.M. Abhyankar.

Speaking to Newsband, Madhukar Varbhuvan, an office bearer of the union, stated that the discussions with Commissioner Dr. Shinde were constructive, and focusing on several pressing issues faced by the teachers at the 23 Secondary Schools operated by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Key demands put forth by the teachers include the restoration of morning sessions for secondary schools, recognition of teachers appointed in 2011 as full-time teachers alongside their counterparts from 2006 and 2023, and the provision of pay differentials for the period served as Shikshan Sevaks. Furthermore, the union has demanded for immediate senior pay scales for teachers with 12 years of service or more, and for promotions and approvals for supervisors and other positions to be determined by seniority, in accordance with government regulations.

The meeting also addressed the compassionate appointment of Vanita Dilip Kadu, the widow of late teacher Dilip Kadu, in municipal corporation service. Commissioner Dr. Shinde has directed the Education Department to take prompt action on these matters.

Union members, including Hitendra Choudhary, Maruti Padalkar, Jalandar Sarode, and Jagdish Bhagat, were present at the meeting, highlighting the collective effort to ensure the welfare and recognition of teachers in Navi Mumbai.
