In a significant and thoughtful step towards supporting the women in law enforcement, the Thane City Police launched a mobile resting van called ‘Mahila Police Vishramika.’ The van, designed to comfort and provide space for female police officers during long and strenuous bandobast, was introduced on Tuesday as part of a pilot project. The initiative, conceptualized by Ashutosh Dumbare, Commissioner of Thane Police, is aimed at providing essential facilities, particularly catering to the needs of nursing mothers.

The Vishramika has been built using a Tata vehicle and is equipped with a range of amenities, including a sofa-cum-bed, toilet, bathroom, two wash basins, and two changing rooms. These features ensure that women officers have a place to rest, refresh, and take a break, providing them with much-needed comfort and convenience. The van is also staffed by a female driver and a female constable.

This innovative initiative is part of Thane Police's ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women officers, and it is expected to enhance their well-being and overall job performance. A senior officer from the Thane Police stated, “Currently, this vehicle has been prepared on an experimental basis. If successful, we plan to expand the initiative by deploying similar vans across all five police zones in Thane. We believe this will not only improve the working conditions for our female officers but also encourage more women to join the police force.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity a female constable said, “This mobile resting van is exactly what we needed. Long shifts often leave us physically drained, and having a private space to relax or freshen up makes a world of difference in our performance on duty”.
