In a heartwarming initiative to commemorate World Cancer Day on February 4th, the Kharghar-based Mangalam Charitable Foundation gifted wigs to 41 female cancer patients, helping them regain their confidence and a sense of normalcy in their lives. One of the most challenging side effects of chemotherapy is hair loss, which often leaves patients feeling self-conscious and isolated. For many women and girls, baldness can hinder their ability to maintain a normal life in society.

The distribution of wigs, carried out in collaboration with the Konark Foundation, brought joy and emotional relief to the recipients. As the women tried on their new wigs and looked at themselves in the mirror, an overwhelming wave of emotion surged through the room. Many were moved to tears, expressing that the wigs represented more than just a cosmetic change; they symbolized hope and dignity during some of the darkest days of their lives. One patient remarked, “It is not just a wig; it is the hope of light illuminated among each one of us, whispering that I am more than my illness.”

The Mangalam Charitable Foundation, a registered organization, has been dedicated to supporting cancer patients from various parts of the country seeking treatment at Tata Cancer Hospital. Located in Sector 30, Kharghar, near the Tata Cancer Centre, the foundation has been serving cancer and underprivileged patients since 2009.

In addition to providing wigs, the foundation organizes various medical wellness camps throughout Mumbai to raise awareness about cancer detection and treatment. Their facility, Mangalam Niwas, offers hygienically clean accommodations at reasonable rates, along with free meals, medical support, and free Amul milk for patients.
