Minister Hasan Mushrif emphasizes implementation of SOPs to prevent GBS virus outbreak

In light of the growing concern over the outbreak of the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) virus, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif has urged the effective implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to control and prevent further spread.

In a review meeting held at the Ministry, Minister Mushrif instructed that daily updated information regarding GBS patients should be submitted to the Commissioner of the Medical Education and Research Department. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Commissioner Rajiv Nivatkar, Director Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, and Director of Ayush Dr. Raman Ghungralekar, while Deans of Government Medical and Ayurveda Medical Colleges and the Chairman of the Task Force participated via video conferencing.

Minister Mushrif highlighted the importance of creating public awareness about preventive measures for GBS. He stressed that educating citizens on the disease will play a crucial role in preventing its spread. He also emphasized the need for the health system to ensure the availability of necessary medicines and equipment.

Minister Mushrif urged anyone experiencing these symptoms not to panic but to seek medical attention at government hospitals for early diagnosis and preventive measures.

Common Symptoms of GBS Disease:

  • Sudden weakness or paralysis in the legs or hands
  • Difficulty walking or weakness
  • Prolonged diarrhea

Preventive Measures to Avoid GBS Virus:

  • Drink boiled water to maintain water quality.
  • Consume fresh, clean food, ensuring cooked and uncooked food items are stored separately to prevent contamination.
  • Maintain proper personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.
