Directs transgender-specific toilets
In a significant move towards inclusivity and improving transport infrastructure, the Minister of State for Transport, Madhuri Misal, has directed that all bus depots across the state must provide toilets specifically reserved for transgender individuals. This directive is part of her broader push for enhanced passenger facilities and safety.
At a recent review meeting with the State Transport (ST) Corporation, Mrs. Misal emphasized the importance of reducing bus accidents. She called for immediate steps to ensure the safety of passengers and to implement measures aimed at accident prevention within the corporation's buses.
The meeting, chaired by Minister of State for Transport, Madhuri Misal, saw the participation of key officials, including Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Transport Corporation, Dr. Madhav Kusekar, Financial Advisor Girish Deshmukh, Chief Accounting Officer, and General Manager Nandkumar Kolkar.
"Concrete actions are required to ensure the safety of passengers, including the necessary measures for reducing accidents in our buses," Mrs. Madhuri stated during the meeting. She also highlighted the need for improved cleanliness and better facilities at bus stands as well as bus depots, urging officials to make bus stops well-equipped for the convenience of travellers.
In addition to these initiatives, the Minister gave instructions for the swift commencement of the housing project aimed at enhancing the living conditions for bus conductors and drivers.
Looking ahead, Mrs. Madhuri promised that several measures would be implemented in the near future to enhance facilities at bus stands, ensuring safe, accessible, and comfortable travel for everyone.
