Mira Road: In a shocking incident at the Ramdev Park area in Mira Road, a woman narrowly escaped death after her estranged husband allegedly attacked her with a knife, suspecting her of infidelity. The Mira Road police have registered a case of attempted murder in connection with the incident.
The victim, Geeta Arun Chettri (43), who works as a sanitation worker, was attacked on April 18 morning at around 7:30 AM outside the Shri Vimalnath Building society office, where she was engaged in cleaning work. According to police, her husband, Arun Chettri (50), who had been living separately from her for the past few months, approached her at the location and confronted her.
“He called her over and accused her of not staying with him anymore. He then pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the abdomen with the intention to kill,” said senior police inspector Meghna Burade.
“Fortunately, some alert bystanders intervened immediately, prevented further harm, and managed to stop the accused,” she added.
Geeta sustained severe injuries and significant blood loss. She was rushed to hospital in Kandivali, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable but serious.
“We have registered a case under Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita section 109 for attempted murder, and the accused is in custody. Further investigation is underway,” added Burade.
