Navi Mumbai: As Navi Mumbai celebrates Ganeshotsav with fervour, MLA Manda Mhatre is spearheading a campaign to make the city plastic-free. Emphasizing environmental sustainability, MLA Mhatre has been actively visiting household Ganpati celebrations and Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals to promote the use of cloth bags and reduce plastic waste.

During her visits, MLA Mhatre distributed cloth bags to residents and Ganesh Mandals, underscoring the importance of minimizing plastic usage. She highlighted a common issue: plastic waste in drains, which often leads to blockages during the monsoon season. To address this, she has urged Ganesh devotees to avoid plastic bags and support the city's plastic-free movement.

In addition to personal distributions, MLA Mhatre has requested all Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals in Navi Mumbai to display plastic-free awareness banners and participate in the campaign. Cloth bags will be provided to Ganesh Mandals upon request, reinforcing her commitment to a cleaner environment.

MLA Mhatre also distributed cloth bags to individuals including Rupesh Divekar, Prakash Mukadam, Usha Dutt of Belapur Village, and to several Ganeshotsav Mandals such as Sagar Darshan Society and Ekvira Riksha Chalak Malak Sanghatana Ballaleshwar Sarvjanik Ganeshotsav Mandal of Seawoods.
