MLA Manda Mhatre extends support to hunger-striking workers

Manda Mhatre, MLA from Belapur Assembly Constituency has expressed her solidarity with the sanitation workers who have been on a hunger strike for the past three days near the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) headquarters. Her objective was to gain insights into the specific demands and issues raised by the Samaj Samata Kamgar Sangh.
MLA Manda Mhatre recognized the hard work of the sanitation workers, who come from diverse communities and backgrounds, emphasizing that their dedication significantly contributes to Navi Mumbai's reputation for cleanliness. She underscored that the awards and accolades received by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation stand as a testament to the commitment of these workers.
During the meeting, MLA Manda Mhatre assured the workers that she would arrange a meeting of the Samaj Samata Kamgar Sangh with the civic chief as soon as he returns from his two-day government tour. She pledged to work towards addressing their demands and ensuring justice for the sanitation workers, including advocating for improved wages.
She also mentioned that she had personally contacted Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Mhasal, providing him with a comprehensive account of the situation. Mhasal assured her that the matter would be swiftly resolved.
Among the demands put forth by the Samaj Samata Kamgar Sangh are the immediate payment of gratuity to retired workers, clearance of arrears of special living allowances for garden department workers from 2020, and various other worker-related issues. MLA Manda Mhatre vowed that once these issues are resolved, the sanitation workers will receive a special gift before Diwali as a gesture of goodwill.
During this meeting with the hunger-striking sanitation workers, MLA Manda Mhatre was accompanied by Mangesh Lad, the General Secretary of Samaj Samata Worker Sangh, Gajanan Bhoir, President of Samaj Samata Worker Sangh (Navi Mumbai), Santosh Patil, Vice President of Samaj Samata Worker Sangh, Mahendra Patil, Vice President of Samaj Samata Worker Sangh, Subhash Salunkhe, and other union officials.
