Promotes use of cloth bags

Navi Mumbai: In a determined effort to make Navi Mumbai plastic-free, MLA Manda Mhatre has taken a significant step by distributing cloth bags to women in the Juinagar-Sanpada division. The initiative, organized under the guidance of Rajesh Patil and in the presence of members from Snehalay Mahila Mandal, marks a strong push towards environmental sustainability in the city.

During the event, MLA Manda Mhatre emphasized the urgent need to eliminate the use of plastic bags, particularly highlighting the problems they cause during monsoon season. "Whenever the NMMC cleans the drains before or after the monsoons, we find that most of the blockages are due to plastic bags and plastic items. These blockages lead to waterlogging, creating significant problems for the residents," MLA Manda Mhatre pointed out.

To address this issue, MLA Manda has urged Navi Mumbaikars to switch to cloth bags, encouraging them to participate actively in the 'Plastic-Free Navi Mumbai' campaign. She also called on all Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals in Navi Mumbai to support the initiative by putting up awareness banners and displays promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives during the festive season. To further this cause, MLA Manda Mhatre announced that beautiful and durable cloth bags would be distributed to all Ganesh Mandals in Navi Mumbai as part of the campaign.

In addition to the environmental push, Rajesh Patil, as part of the initiative, donated Rs. 25 lakhs, contributing to a larger project fund of Rs. 250 crores aimed at various developmental works in the region.
