With Diwali just a few days away, the demand for sweetmeats is at an all-time high, prompting concerns over the sale of adulterated food products. In a statement to the Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Shrikant Karkale, the Vice President of MNS Sahakar Sena, Balasaheb Shinde, has called for immediate action against the trade of adulterated sweets and dairy products.

As the assembly elections loom in Maharashtra, the festive season has intensified demand for sweets, mava, oil, ghee, and other food grains. Traders have been observed taking advantage of this spike in demand by selling substandard and adulterated goods. Recently, a seizure of adulterated edible oil was reported in the Vashi Dana Market area, highlighting the ongoing issue.

Shinde emphasized the urgent need for a robust system to prevent food adulteration during this festive season, advocating for round-the-clock inspections, including on holidays, to ensure food safety. He warned that any negligence on the part of the Food and Drug Administration could lead to serious consequences, including incidents of food poisoning that may result in loss of life.

In light of these concerns, MNS has threatened to organize strong protests if necessary actions are not taken to safeguard public health. The demand for rigorous checks and accountability in food safety measures has become paramount as the festive celebrations approach.
