The highly anticipated HSBC Wings- Bird Race of India, formerly known as the India Bird Race, is set to take place on February 16th, 2025, in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Sponsored by HSBC and Tata Chemicals, the event is one of the largest birdwatching races in the country, aimed at promoting bird conservation and environmental awareness.
The HSBC Bird Race, organized annually since 2005, attracts over 50 teams from across the country, with participants vying to spot the highest number of bird species in a single day. Teams can birdwatch from sunrise to sunset, and the team that identifies the most species of birds wins. In addition, the team that spots the rarest bird also receives a special prize. After the race, teams are required to upload their bird sightings list in an Excel sheet, along with photographs of the birds and a team photo for evaluation by the organizers.
Sunjoy Monga, the Chief Organizer and Coordinator at the Pan India level, shared that the event continues to grow in popularity and has become a major annual event for birdwatchers across India. "Every year, more than 50 teams take part, and this year, we expect to see even more participation, with several groups from Navi Mumbai already planning to register," he added.
This year, the event will introduce new segments, including special lectures on bird conservation, children's school events, and a focus on the important issue of bird conservation and preserving bird habitats. The race is not just a competition but a platform for education and awareness about the need for protecting bird species and their natural environments.
The HSBC Wings-Bird Race of India promises to be an exciting and informative event for bird enthusiasts and environmental advocates alike.
