The North Channel on the Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Sagari Kinara Marga from Marine Drive to Haji Ali area was inaugurated on 10^th June, 2024, marking a significant milestone in Mumbai's transportation infrastructure. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar led the inspection of this newly opened tunnel.

Accompanying them were Mumbai Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, and Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.

Chief Minister Shinde highlighted the impact of the North Channel route on easing city traffic, stating that the journey time of approximately 45 minutes can now be covered in just 10 minutes. The accessibility to prominent areas such as Bhulabhai Desai Marg, Barrister Rajni Patel Chowk, and Vatsalabai Desai Chowk (Hajiali Chowk) will be significantly enhanced.

Emphasizing the relief provided to Mumbaikars from traffic congestion, Chief Minister Shinde noted the opening of the first 9-km stretch of the Sagari Kinara Marga, with an additional 6.5 kilometers inaugurated. The inspection included the route from Nariman Point to Worli, showcasing the progress of the Coastal Route project.

The newly constructed tunnel, spanning six and a half kilometres from Nariman Point to Haji Ali, boasts modern infrastructure and emergency provisions, including telephones to contact the control room in case of emergencies. Chief Minister Shinde personally tested the emergency response system during the inspection.
