In a bid to ensure fair elections and curb the misuse of financial resources during the upcoming Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly elections, the Income Tax Department in Mumbai has set up a 24/7 control room. This initiative aims to monitor election expenditures closely and prevent any underhanded use of cash or valuables to sway voters.
The control room, which will remain operational as long as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in effect, has been established as a part of the department’s broader election expenditure monitoring framework. By making it easy for the public to report suspicious activities, the Income Tax Department seeks to maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of the election process.
Residents across Maharashtra are encouraged to report any observed misuse of funds or valuables associated with electioneering.
The public can report any misuse of funds or valuables during the election by contacting the Income Tax Department’s 24/7 control room in Mumbai. The toll-free number is 1800-221-510, and WhatsApp or Text numbers are 8976176276 and 8976176776.
Additionally, information can be sent via email at mumbai.addldit.inv7@incometax.gov.in. The control room is located at Room No. 316, 3rd Floor, Scindia House, Ballard Estate, Mumbai-400001.
