Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for transformative projects valued at over Rs 32,800 crore in Thane, Maharashtra, on October 5, 2024. This significant initiative aims to enhance urban mobility and infrastructure in the region.

During the event, the Prime Minister expressed pride in the Central Government's decision to confer Classical Language status to Marathi, highlighting its cultural importance. He congratulated Marathi speakers globally, noting the occasion's significance during the Navratri festival. Earlier that day, Modi also announced the disbursement of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi to 9.5 crore farmers while visiting Washim, showcasing the government's commitment to development across various sectors.

Focusing on future advancements, Modi stated that today’s inaugurations, including the Aqua Line Metro from Aarey to BKC, demonstrate Maharashtra's modern development trajectory. He thanked the Japanese government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their support, describing the Aqua metro line as a symbol of India-Japan friendship. The Prime Minister emphasized Thane’s historical significance, recalling its contributions to India, including notable figures like Dr. Anandi Bhai Joshi.

Modi reaffirmed that the goal is a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India), with every initiative aimed at making cities like Mumbai and Thane ready for the future. He criticized past administrations for neglecting the growing population and traffic issues in Mumbai, leading to concerns about the city's infrastructure. Highlighting the ongoing development of a 300-kilometre metro network, he noted that the coastal road has significantly reduced travel time, while various projects are transforming the urban landscape.

The Prime Minister criticized previous governments for delays in the Mumbai Metro project, which resulted in cost overruns. He emphasized the need to learn from past mistakes to avoid appeasement politics, advocating for a government that prioritizes honest and stable policies.

In a major push for urban mobility, Modi inaugurated the BKC to Aarey JVLR section of Mumbai Metro Line 3, valued at around Rs 14,120 crore, which will include ten stations, nine of which will be underground. This line is expected to serve approximately 12 lakh passengers daily upon full operation. He also laid the foundation stone for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, costing about Rs 12,200 crore, which will address the transportation demands of Thane, a key industrial hub.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced the foundation for the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, valued at Rs 3,310 crore, and the Phase-1 Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project, worth around Rs 2,550 crore, aimed at developing essential infrastructure. The Thane Municipal Corporation project, with a budget of Rs 700 crore, will enhance administrative services for local citizens.

The event attracted prominent figures, including Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, marking a crucial step towards the state's comprehensive development.
