The National Deworming Campaign was officially launched today in the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) area to administer deworming tablets to children aged 1 to 19 years. The inauguration ceremony took place at Pir Karam Ali Shah Urdu School No. 10.

The event was graced by dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi, Additional Director of the State Welfare Bureau Pune Dr. Rajkumar Jagtap, Statistical Officer Ajita Joshi, Maternal and Child Care Officer Dr. Ganesh Nair, and Medical Officer Dr. Rehana Mujawar. Headmistress of Urdu School, Nazia Dalvi, and other healthcare professionals also attended.

During the inauguration, the importance of deworming tablets was explained to the students, followed by the distribution of tablets. The campaign aims to reach 1,50,705 children from 268 schools and 148 Anganwadis under the guidance of PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale.

Jant dosha (intestinal worm infections) poses serious health risks to children, including anemia, intestinal inflammation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Deworming tablets, administered twice a year, are essential to prevent these conditions, stated Chitale

He further added, for children who miss the deworming tablets on December 4, a mop-up round is scheduled for December 10 to ensure full coverage.

The initiative, led by the Department of Medical Surgery of PMC, extends to children in Anganwadis, municipal schools, government-aided and unaided schools, junior colleges, and first-year students of senior colleges. Along with deworming tablets, children are also being educated on the importance of hygiene, including proper handwashing techniques.
