The commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Rajesh Narvekar unveiled the 'Navi Mumbai Eco Knights' team logo which has been created for 'Indian Cleanliness League 2.0' competition, announced under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission'. Last year, Navi Mumbai City bagged the first place for the highest youth participation among major cities in the country.

Keeping the same enthusiasm and to maintain its first position, all efforts are being taken, stated Commissioner Narvekar during the unveiling ceremony which was held at the NMMC’s headquarters in the presence of Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole and Vijay Kumar Mhasal and other department heads, officers, employees, teachers and citizens were present in large numbers.

Speaking during the ceremony, Commissioner Narvekar assured that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is ready for this competition and will perform better than last year.

Last year, 1800 cities across the country participated and Navi Mumbai had the honour of highest youth participation. This year, more than 4000 cities have participated and although this is a big challenge, the Commissioner expressed his belief that we will succeed in it with the strength of the enthusiasm of the cleanliness-loving citizens of Navi Mumbai.

He informed that renowned music singer and composer Padmashri Shankar Mahadevan is the ambassador of Navi Mumbai and the captain of the Navi Mumbai Eco Knights team.

Under the 'Indian Swachhta League', apart from unveiling of the ream logo on September 12 various other activities have been planned in series like sanitation awareness by visiting societies on September 13, sanitation awareness through third-party citizens on September 14 and sanitation workers' awareness drive on September 15 at the same time in all the schools in Navi Mumbai. Various activities like clean painting competition of students, public awareness at city malls on 16th September as well as mass swearing program of cleanliness in all the eight ward offices on 17th September are being organized, said Narvekar.

“Through these activities, in order to create a cleanliness movement in the entire city and to spread the wave of cleanliness everywhere, on September 17, eight programs have been planned in the Municipal Corporation area where all the citizens will come together and take a collective oath of cleanliness at 8.00 a.m.”, he said.

He further urged the school and college students and teachers, youth, public representatives, members of women's savings groups and women's circles, members of various organizations, officers and members of societies, senior citizens and media representatives to attend and participate enthusiastically towards a clean Navi Mumbai city.
