Football fans in India are in for a nostalgic treat as legendary players from Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid face off in a high-voltage exhibition match at the DY Patil Stadium today.

The much-anticipated clash between the Barcelona Legends and Real Madrid Legends is expected to rekindle memories of one of football's most iconic rivalries -- El Clasico.

The exhibition match pits FC Barcelona Legends, led by Carlos Puyol, against Real Madrid Legends, captained by Luís Figo.

Announced on April 2, the squads feature legends like Xavi Hernandez, Rivaldo, Pepe, Michael Owen, and Christian Karembeu, promising a nostalgic spectacle for Indian fans.

The match aims to bridge the gap between international icons and India’s passionate football community.

“This isn’t just a game, it’s a celebration of India’s growing love for football,” said John Zaidi, CEO and co-founder of The Sports Front, organizers of the match. “Bringing these legends to Navi Mumbai is a milestone moment.”

Puyol, the 46-year-old Barcelona icon with three UEFA Champions League titles, expressed excitement about his Indian debut, “I’ve heard about the fans’ energy, and now I’ll experience it firsthand.”

Figo, 52, who won the 2002 Champions League with Real Madrid, added, “India’s football passion is inspiring. This clash will be unforgettable.”

The match is part of a larger initiative to spread global football culture in India. Former Barcelona defender and captain of the Barcelona Legends team, Sergi Barjuan, expressed his excitement ahead of the game and emphasized the importance of engaging with Indian fans.

To ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety around the stadium, Navi Mumbai Police have implemented special arrangements. DCP (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade urged fans to opt for public transport to avoid congestion in the limited parking zones around the venue.
