Navi Mumbai News: NMMC pays tribute to firefighters

Navi Mumbai On Fire Service Day, NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde paid tribute to martyred firefighters at Vashi Fire Station, urging citizens to adopt preventive fire safety measures. Alongside senior fire officials, he honoured those who lost their lives in service, including the 66 personnel who perished in the 1944 SS Fort Stikine fire.
Dr Shinde emphasised the need for awareness drives and safety demonstrations in public spaces like malls, schools, and offices. He highlighted changing risks, especially from upcoming data centres, and called for regular training and functional safety equipment in institutions.

The Commissioner also directed that building plans be made digitally accessible to aid emergency response and stressed the importance of immediate action before firefighters arrive.
Fire Service Week (14–20 April) is being marked across Navi Mumbai with mock drills and awareness campaigns, aiming to promote a culture of fire safety.
