Navi Mumbai news: Young couple arrested in connection with the murder of taxi driver in Ulwe

Navi Mumbai: Ulwe police has arrested a couple in connection with the murder of a taxi driver in the node on The accused were arrested from Sangamner in Ahmednagar where the duo had fled after committing the crime.

The accused were presented in court and were remanded to police custody till April 15.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Pandey, a resident of Ulwe, who used to work as a taxi driver with a fleet taxi service, Prashant Mohite, deputy commissioner of police, Panvel said while addressing the media. The accused has been identified as Riya Sarkalyan Singh (19) and Vishal Shinde (21).

Pandey’s brother had gone to the police station to register a missing report when the police received a call that two people had surrendered before the Sangamner police station and confessed to have killed Pandey.

When a police team went to Pandey’s house, the door was locked from outside and a stench was emanating from the house.

During interrogation, Riya revealed that she had booked Pandey’s car and later came to stay at his house. Riya was in love with Vishal who used to visit her at Pandey’s house.

Pandey had made some explicit videos of Riya and Vishal, and was using it to blackmail her for sex. Driven to desperation, Riya and Vishal murdered Pandey and fled in his taxi to Sangamner.

Vishal confessed his crime to his father who advised the duo to surrender to the police.
