Navi Mumbai Police arrest notorious chain snatchers

Nerul police have arrested two notorious chain snatchers. The accused have been identified as Avinash Sunil Shishupal (20) and Sahil Sunil Nikam alias Nanya (21). Police investigations have revealed that the duo was involved in six separate chain-snatching incidents in the Nerul area.

The police have recovered 75 grams of gold out of the 99 grams stolen and also seized a scooter used in the crimes. The arrests were made following a thorough investigation after the accused snatched a gold chain from Shobha Nalawade, a resident of Sarsole, last month.

After receiving the complaint, a team was formed under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Bramhanand Naikwadi, the team meticulously examined the CCTV footage from multiple crime scenes and tracked the suspects through their movements. A technical investigation and constant surveillance ultimately led to their capture.

During interrogation, both accused confessed to committing six chain-snatching crimes in the Nerul area. Further police checks revealed that Avinash Shishupal had four cases registered against him at Tilaknagar police station, along with additional cases in Nerul and Govandi. Meanwhile, Sahil Nikam has a history of multiple cases, including two each in Chembur, Tilaknagar, and Bhoiwada police stations, and one in Ghatkopar.
