Aims at combating rising financial crimes

In a significant step, to curb escalating financial crimes the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate on Friday, 29th December launched Financial Intelligence Unit, the dedicated unit will function under the umbrella of Economic Offence Wing of Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate.

The establishment of this unit aims to address the mounting complexity of financial offenses and the consequential substantial financial losses suffered by citizens. Additionally, it will strive to enhance public awareness in the community regarding financial safety measures.

In light of the rising trend in multifaceted financial crimes causing distress to residents, Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe initiated the formation of the Financial Intelligence Unit under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Deepak Sakore and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch Amit Kale.

To inaugurate the unit's mission, an enlightening awareness program took place at Manthan Hall in Panvel, specifically designed for all police stations in the Panvel taluka. During this session, Police Inspector Satish Jadhav and Police Inspector Jitendra Misal shared a spectrum of financial crimes, including ponzi schemes, money circulation, cheat funds, banking crimes, housing frauds, and job racket. Moreover, they highlighted the essential precautions to consider before investing in financial schemes and emphasized the necessity of government approval for such investments.

Dr. Vishal Nehul, Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offence Wing, urged citizens to exercise vigilance by verifying the legitimacy of investment schemes through government portals. Additionally, he cautioned against falling prey to deceitful advertisements and encouraged individuals to report any financial fraud or suspicious schemes to the Economic Offence Wing or the nearest police station.

The program witnessed a significant turnout, with Police Patil, women, and numerous citizens attending, signifying a collective commitment to combating financial malpractices and securing the financial well-being of the community.
