Navi Mumbai Police Crack Down on Drug Trade with Record Seizures

Navi Mumbai Police, under the special campaign ‘Nashamukt Navi Mumbai’ (Drug-Free Navi Mumbai), have made significant strides in combating drug smuggling and consumption within the city. In 2024, the police conducted 654 operations, seizing drugs worth ₹33.27 crore and arresting 939 individuals, marking a substantial increase compared to 2023.
Responding to the growing menace of drug trafficking and its impact on youth, Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe launched targeted measures to curb drug-related activities. Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and local police teams maintained heightened vigilance at schools, colleges, malls, railway stations, and other public areas, leading to a 38% increase in operations compared to the previous year.
Drugs seized include MD, cocaine, heroin, LSD, ganja, and others, with MD and cocaine accounting for the largest share. The ANC alone carried out 75 operations, seizing drugs worth ₹25.13 crore and arresting 201 individuals, including 58 foreign nationals, primarily African citizens involved in drug smuggling.
In a focused effort, Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Nigde and his team arrested foreign nationals found smuggling drugs worth ₹25.7 crore.
