Navi Mumbai Police destroys Rs.10 crores worth of seized drugs in anti-narcotics drive

In a significant step toward combating drug trafficking, the Navi Mumbai Police destroyed drugs worth Rs.10 crores, which were seized in various operations over the past two years. The disposal was carried out in a controlled manner at Mumbai Waste Management Limited in Taloja on Wednesday, 26th February as part of the Drug-Free Navi Mumbai campaign.

The destroyed contraband included 140 kg of MD, heroin, cocaine, ganja, charas, opium, and LSD paper, along with 500 kg of gutkha. State Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur, Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, Joint Police Commissioner Sanjay Yenpure, Additional Police Commissioner Deepak Sakore, Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch Amit Kale, and other senior officials were present at the event.

Over the past two years, the Anti-Narcotics Squad and various police stations under the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate have seized large quantities of drugs in multiple raids.

In total, narcotics from 40 cases were destroyed on Wednesday. The police ensured that the disposal process was conducted safely at the hazardous waste processing, storage, and disposal facility in Taloja.

The Navi Mumbai Police have taken extensive action against drug smugglers and users in 2023 and 2024, registering 1,143 cases and arresting 1,743 accused. A total of Rs.53 crores worth of drugs has been seized in this period. Among the arrested, 111 African nationals were found in possession of narcotics worth Rs.38 crores.
