Navi Mumbai Police Reports 3% Rise in Crime Detection

The Navi Mumbai Police Force has made significant improvement in crime detection rates and overall law enforcement effectiveness, according to their annual report. In 2024, there was a 3% increase in the crime detection rate, with notable successes in solving cases related to crimes against the bodily and other offences, women, property, and enforcement. However, the police also reported a concerning rise in cybercrime incidents over the past year.

In a press conference held at the Navi Mumbai Police Headquarters on 27th January, 2025, Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe shared the annual crime statistics. He praised the force for its effective crime prevention initiatives, which contributed to reduction in cases like murder, attempted murder, injuries, and property crimes. There were also fewer incidents of crimes against women, with a decrease of 104 cases compared to 2023.

Crime Detection Highlights

Out of 797 cases of crimes against the bodily and other offences, 98% were successfully solved. Property-related crimes saw 52% resolution, while crimes involving financial fraud showed a 51% detection rate. An impressive 98% of crimes against women were solved, with a similar success rate in other crime categories. In total, the detection rate for 2024 was 3% higher than the previous year, a testament to the effectiveness of the police force's operational methods.

Cybercrime 

While the overall crime detection has improved, cybercrimes have continued to rise at an alarming rate. In 2024, a total of 436 cybercrimes were registered under the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Police, with criminals defrauding victims of Rs. 150.97 crore. The police have solved only 79 of these cases, recovering Rs. 41.32 crore, of which Rs. 6.92 crore has been returned to the victims. In response to this, the Navi Mumbai Police have launched awareness campaigns through digital platforms to educate the public on preventing cybercrimes.

Anti-drug operations

The Navi Mumbai Police also reported an increase in anti-drug operations, with 113 cases registered for drug possession. The department arrested 206 individuals, including 56 foreign nationals, in connection with these operations. Under the "Drug-Free Navi Mumbai" campaign, police seized drugs worth Rs. 33.68 crore.

Conviction Rate Boost

One of the significant achievements of 2024 was the increase in the conviction rate, rising from 36% in 2023 to 45% in 2024. Notable convictions included life imprisonment sentences for murder and POCSO cases, further highlighting the success of the police's efforts in ensuring justice for victims.

Traffic and Road Safety

On the traffic front, Navi Mumbai Traffic Police registered nearly 8.88 lakh cases under the Motor Vehicle Act, collecting fines totalling Rs. 18.19 crore. However, despite heightened enforcement, the city saw an increase in traffic-related fatalities, with 287 road deaths recorded in 2024, an increase of 44 compared to the previous year.
