Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have intensified their efforts to curb drunk driving, taking action against 218 drivers caught under the influence within the jurisdiction of the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate. These offenders were detained and penalized under the provisions of the Drunk and Drive Act.
The special drive, conducted by 16 traffic branches from December 20 to 27, aimed to ensure road safety during the festive season. Despite repeated appeals from the transport department urging citizens not to drive after consuming alcohol, drunk driving incidents continue to occur, posing a significant threat to public safety.
The Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has been running regular drunk driving campaigns to discourage such behaviour. However, the recent cases highlight the persistent challenge of ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade stated, “This campaign will continue, and strict action will be taken against anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol. Drivers are urged to adhere to traffic rules and avoid consuming alcohol before driving to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.”
