Swastika Ghosh, a remarkable talent hailing from Navi Mumbai's Kharghar and a student of CKT College in Panvel, has achieved a significant milestone in her Table Tennis career by becoming the first international player from the region with a ranking of 151 in Women's Table Tennis. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) unveiled the latest world rankings recently, showcasing Swastika's stellar rise in the sport.
Swastika's journey to international recognition has been nothing short of impressive. Transitioning from youth to women's events just two years ago, she has quickly climbed the ranks through consistent performances in various tournaments. Notably, her recent participation in three World Ranking Tournaments, including the WTT Feeder Turkey Open, saw her clinch the silver medal in mixed doubles alongside Anirban Ghosh, and reach the pre-quarterfinals in singles. Her commendable performances in other events, such as the WTT Contenders in China and Croatia, further solidified her position on the global stage.
Being part of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) TOPS Scheme, Swastika has received advanced training in Table Tennis in Japan, contributing significantly to her tactical prowess and game improvement, as highlighted by her coach and mentor, Sandeep Ghosh. Moreover, her association with the Virat Kohli Foundation as an athlete for the past five years has added to her accolades and recognition.
Swastika's achievements extend beyond individual success, as she has represented India in the Senior Women's Team at the World Championships twice. Currently ranked seventh overall in India, Swastika aims to break into the top 100 soon, setting her sights on the upcoming World Ranking Tournament in August.
Her remarkable performances have caught the attention of none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sent her an appreciation letter, lauding her dedication and talent in Table Tennis.
