Navratri celebrated with great religious fervour at Aai Govardhani Mata Temple

As the vibrant festival of Navratri begins, devotees and cultural enthusiasts have been enthusiastically visiting the historic Aai Govardhani Mata temple, located in Kille Gaothan, Navi Mumbai. This ancient temple, around 300 years old, stands as a testament to the region's rich heritage and spiritual significance, having been established during the Peshwa era.

Aai Govardhani Mata is revered not only in Navi Mumbai but also across the districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar. Reflecting over three centuries of history and devotion, dating back to the time of the illustrious Chimaji Appa. Nestled on a scenic hill and surrounded by lush greenery, the temple offers a serene ambiance, with the vast sea stretching out behind it, creating a picturesque setting for worship and celebration.

The goddess is particularly celebrated among goldsmiths, Brahmins, and the Agri-Koli community, who often come to the temple to seek blessings, fulfill vows, and partake in various rituals. The temple, restored 17 years ago through the dedicated efforts of businessman Vijay Mhatre and MLA Manda Mhatre, stands as a symbol of faith and resilience, welcoming thousands of devotees each year.

Navratri Festivities

The Navratri festival began on Thursday, October 3, 2024, with abhishekam (ritual bath) of the idol of Aai Govardhani Mata at 6:00 AM, followed by the installation of the Goddess at 8:00 AM, culminating in a traditional aarti ceremony. Each day of the Navratri festival will feature puja-archana at 7:30 AM, inviting devotees to immerse themselves in the spiritual atmosphere.

In addition to the daily rituals, special programs are scheduled to engage the community. On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Haldi Kumkum ceremony will take place at 5:30 PM. The highlight of the festivities will be the ‘Navchandi Hom’ on October 12, 2024, which will run from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Mahaprasad distribution that allows devotees to share in the blessings of the goddess.

MLA Manda Mhatre has extended a warm invitation to all devotees to join in the celebrations and partake in the Mahaprasad, emphasizing the importance of community and togetherness during this auspicious time.
