Navratri festivities draw crowds to Kalyan’s 300-Year-Old Jarimari Devi Temple

Ai Jarimari Devi Temple, located at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Kalyan West, stands out as a significant religious site. This temple, which is estimated to be 250 to 300 years old, is situated opposite Lakshmi Market on Old Station Road and features a large auditorium. It houses two stone idols of Mother Jarimari Devi on the western side.

Known as an awakening shrine, Jarimari Mata is revered by locals for her spiritual significance. Originally part of the Char Pakhi Koularu Chhapra, the temple is managed by the Thankar family of Thankar Pada in Kalyan, who constructed a new temple around 35-40 years ago.

The temple hosts grand festivals, particularly during the ten days of Navratri and the month of Ashadha. One of the most notable events occurs on Chaitra Shuddha Hanuman Jayanti, when the palanquin of Ai Jarimari Devi is paraded through the main square and market of Kalyan city. This vibrant procession attracts thousands of devotees, all eager to participate in the celebrations.

Throughout the Navratri festival, the goddess is adorned in a variety of new sarees and presented in different forms, captivating the hearts of her followers. The Thankar family, with deep-rooted ties to the temple's management, has upheld this tradition for generations. During this auspicious time, devotees from various districts and states flock to the temple to pay their respects and seek blessings, embodying the enduring devotion to Mother Jarimari Devi.
