Vashi: The Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal of Sector 17 in Vashi is marking its 40th year of Ganesh Utsav with the grand celebration of ‘Navsala Pavnara Maharaja,’ the biggest and most popular Ganesh idol in the area. The highlight of this year’s festivities is the majestic pandal, designed as a replica of the Mysore Palace, which has become a major attraction, drawing thousands of devotees daily. The massive 45x60 feet structure, crafted by 40 artisans over a month, has captivated the local community.

Devotees have been lining up day and night to catch a glimpse of the 13-foot idol of Navsala Pavnara Maharaja, depicted in a regal 'Raja' pose. The faith and devotion of the local residents toward the idol, affectionately known as 'Gajaraja,' have led many to believe that their wishes or "mannat" have been fulfilled. As a gesture of gratitude, devotees have made various offerings, including jewellery and ornaments. “This season, the Maharaja received several pieces of gold jewellery, such as a golden Mukut, golden garland, armlets, wristlet, katibandh (waistband), and anklets. One devotee even offered a ‘Gada’ made of 5 kg silver after his wish was fulfilled,” shared Sampat Shewale, President of the Mandal.

In addition to the religious festivities, the mandal has been actively involved in community welfare. Health camps have been conducted for devotees on almost all days during Ganesh Utsav. The mandal has also adopted 51 underprivileged students from Adivasi Taluka, taking care of their educational and medical needs throughout the year. Furthermore, they extend their support to needy students in the Vashi area.

The grandeur of the decoration and the majestic presence of Maharaja are complemented by regular pujas, aartis, Mahila Bhajan sessions, and the distribution of prasad. A grand Satynarayan Mahapooja was organised on Sunday evening.
