In a large-scale readiness exercise ahead of the monsoon season, the 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out comprehensive disaster preparedness drills across Maharashtra on April 15.

The exercise involved 12 specialized NDRF teams and was aimed at strengthening their capacity to handle diverse emergencies such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, and chemical accidents. The multi-location drills were designed to evaluate response efficiency, inter-agency coordination, and the ability to operate under high-pressure situations.

Key locations for the exercise included Badlapur in Mumbai, Boisar in Palghar, Kondhali Dam in Nagpur, and various sites across Pune district. Each site hosted simulations of real-life disaster scenarios to test field readiness and operational protocols.

Rescue operations conducted during the drills involved rapid evacuation, deployment of rescue equipment, and handling of hazardous material incidents using protective gear. These simulations were carried out in conditions mimicking actual disaster settings to ensure realism and maximum preparedness.

Local authorities, including police departments, fire services, and medical emergency teams, actively participated in the exercise. Their involvement underscored the importance of coordinated efforts and joint response mechanisms in managing large-scale emergencies.

The NDRF’s initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to public safety and disaster mitigation, particularly with the monsoon season approaching.
