Nerul FOB: A bustling hub for local vendors and shoppers

The Foot-over-Bridge (FoB) connecting Nerul East and West, meant to ease commuting near the Nerul railway station, has transformed into a vendor marketplace. Unauthorized fruit and vegetable vendors have taken over the bridge, creating a chaotic environment and leaving little room for daily commuters to navigate.

The surge in vendors has raised concerns about food hygiene and waste management. With most vendors operating without proper sanitation, the FoB is left in a mess every night, covered in garbage and becoming a breeding ground for pests and diseases. As one of Navi Mumbai's key commercial areas, the situation in Nerul complicates travel for locals, turning daily commutes into frustrating and unpleasant experiences.

Sanika Joshi, a regular commuter, expressed her frustration: “These hawkers block the entire FoB, making it impossible to walk without dodging their stalls. I understand their need to earn a living, but it causes significant inconvenience for us.”

Another resident echoed her concerns, pointing out that the illegal vendors not only disrupt pedestrian flow but also create unsanitary conditions. "Every day, we deal with the chaos and the garbage left behind, which attracts pests and produces a terrible smell. There needs to be a permanent solution. Simply confiscating their stalls isn’t enough," the resident said.
