In a significant move to strengthen emergency response capabilities, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has officially taken over the New Panvel and Kalamboli Fire Stations from CIDCO. This transfer is expected to enhance the municipal corporation’s ability to respond swiftly to emergencies and ensure better safety measures for residents.

The handover event was held at the New Panvel Fire Station and was attended by key officials, including PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gawde, former Mayor Kavita Chautmol, Chief Fire Officer Pravin Bodkhe, and other municipal leaders.

During the ceremony, PMC Commissioner Chitale highlighted the corporation’s ongoing commitment to public safety and improving emergency services. He announced plans for acquiring modern firefighting equipment and emphasized the importance of continuous training for the fire department staff, particularly for rescue operations that are adapted to the unique geographical and structural challenges of the municipality.

The newly transferred fire stations, which are now under the administration of the PMC, add to the existing Panvel Fire Station, creating a more robust network of fire services across the region. The three stations are equipped with two firefighting vehicles each. Additionally, PMC has recruited 110 new firefighters who are currently undergoing specialized training to handle a variety of emergency situations, such as building fires, river-related hazards, and other emergencies.

Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gawde expressed his gratitude to all involved and stressed the importance of the transfer in enhancing safety measures. The event concluded with Assistant Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, who reiterated the corporation's dedication to the safety and security of Panvel’s residents.
