Kalyan: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is set to expand and improve its green spaces with plans for new parks and enhanced maintenance for existing ones. Currently, the KDMC area boasts approximately 65 parks and 17 grounds. Given the growing population of around 20 lakh residents, there's a pressing need to increase these recreational spaces.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar has allocated significant funds in this year's budget to ensure that existing parks and grounds remain in top condition. This move is aimed at providing students, children, and the general public with well-maintained recreational facilities.

In line with the city's beautification efforts, the Municipal Corporation received a grant of Rs. 10 crores last year, which is being utilized to develop a state-of-the-art park in Titwala. Additionally, work is underway on several other parks, including Rani Lakshmibai Udyan in Kalyan (West), Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Udyan in Khadavli (East), Gajabandhan Patharli Udyan in Dombivli (East), and Minatai Thackeray Udyan in Dombivli (West). These initiatives reflect Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jakhar's vision of creating well-equipped gardens across the municipal area.

A major tourist attraction, Bhopar Hill in Nandivali, is also undergoing beautification to enhance its appeal. Furthermore, an ‘Autism Garden’ is being developed to cater specifically to children with special needs. This well-equipped garden will offer a safe and accessible play area for these children and is expected to be open to the public in the next 6 to 8 months.

To address maintenance concerns, Chief Park Superintendent Sanjay Jadhav has initiated triennial tenders for all parks and grounds within the city. This will ensure regular upkeep of gardens, including repairs, cleaning, and grass cutting, through external contractors. The new system aims to improve the condition of parks, playgrounds, and exercise equipment, addressing frequent complaints and ensuring a pleasant experience for residents.
