Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has granted in-principle approval for a "Cable Car" project in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The project aims to provide an innovative and eco-friendly solution to the region's growing urban transport challenges. Maharashtra’s Transport Minister, Shri Pratap Sarnaik, shared the update.
The approval was announced during a key meeting in New Delhi, where Shri Sarnaik proposed the inclusion of the "Cable Car" project under the Parvatmala Pariyojana. He suggested implementing it through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model or a joint financial collaboration between the Central and State Governments.
Shri Gadkari emphasized the need for an integrated transport system to reduce travel time from Mumbai’s airport to its suburbs. He directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Secretary, V. Umashankar, to initiate the survey and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Shri Sarnaik assured that a comprehensive transport plan for seamless connectivity in the MMR would be presented soon.
