The Ministry of Finance has officially notified Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) as a customs port for handling import and export cargo.

The decision allows NMIA to undertake full-scale cargo operations. The notification marks a significant step in strengthening NMIA’s role as a key aviation cargo hub.

Developed to complement Mumbai’s existing ports, NMIA is expected to decongest cargo traffic and enhance trade efficiency.

The notification incorporates NMIA and Noida International Airport (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh into the list of authorized customs ports.

This development is expected to bring major benefits to the logistics and trade sectors by reducing costs and transit times. It also aligns with the government’s broader efforts under initiatives like ‘Gati Shakti’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’ to modernize and expand India’s trade infrastructure.

Being a greenfield airport, the Cargo infrastructure is planned in multiple phases. Phase 1 to Phase 5 of NMIA would have a terminal capacity of 0.50 MMT to 2.60 MMT.

In the initial phase, operations will begin with manual operations and ultimately move into a fully mechanised and automated cargo terminal facility with state-of-art technology and equipment. Lounges.

NMIAL is designed to cater to the needs of both domestic and international passengers.
