Navi Mumbai: In preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has ramped up efforts to repair roads across the city, addressing potholes that surfaced during the monsoon season. The city's engineering department is working tirelessly to ensure that all roads are in top condition for the upcoming festival.

As of now, 95% of both main and internal roads within the municipal area have been cleared of potholes. The remaining 5% are also being addressed with the utmost priority. The repair work is being overseen personally by NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Additional Commissioner and City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, ensuring high standards in the repair process.

The repair strategy employs a scientific approach to the size of the potholes. Cold mix is applied for very small potholes, while larger patches are repaired with asphalt or mastic. For some of the more significant potholes, concrete mix or interlocking materials are being used. Special attention is given to ensure that the road surface and the filled material are level, with strict instructions to prevent the recurrence of potholes.

The Thane-Belapur road has been fully repaired, and efforts are concentrated on completing the remaining 5% of the city's roads promptly, informed an official.
