The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is taking significant steps to conserve drinking water by mandating the use of recycled water for construction projects in the area. To take this forward, coordination officers have now been appointed under the guidance of the Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.
This initiative comes in response to the ongoing redevelopment of hazardous buildings developed by CIDCO and various private land development projects, which have been observed to be using large amounts of potable water.
A circular was issued on February 12, requiring developers to utilize tertiary treated (recycled) water for construction activities where applicable.
To facilitate this initiative, NMMC has appointed coordination officers responsible for overseeing the distribution of recycled water in key nodes of Navi Mumbai.
This measure aims to prevent the wastage of drinking water and promote the use of recycled water sourced from municipal sewage treatment plants for non-drinking purposes.
Developers and construction professionals are encouraged to reach out to these officers to obtain the necessary recycled water for their projects, adhering to the rates established by NMMC.
