NMMC chief celebrates Diwali with differently abled students

The e.t.c Centre, renowned nationwide for empowering individuals with disabilities, welcomed Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde for a special Diwali celebration. Dr. Shinde's visit highlighted the importance of inclusivity and support for disabled students and their families during the festive season.
During the celebration, Dr. Shinde expressed his satisfaction with the joy visible on the faces of the students, emphasizing the significance of such interactions. The event was attended by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, City Engineer Shirish Aardwad, e.t.c Centre Director and Deputy Commissioner Sangharatna Khillare, Vashi Division's Assistant Commissioner Sagar More, along with numerous special teachers and parents.
As part of the festivities, the Commissioner and other dignitaries distributed refreshments to the disabled students and extended their Diwali wishes. In his address, Dr. Shinde underscored the collective responsibility of the administration, special educators, and parents in supporting differently-abled individuals. He encouraged collaboration to enhance welfare initiatives and noted that parents themselves often act as special teachers for their children.
Recognizing the rapid advancements in technology and treatment methods for disabilities, the Commissioner called for integrating the latest practices into the e.t.c Centre’s offerings. He also emphasized the need for skill development from an early age, directing that vocational training facilities be made available alongside regular education.
Dr. Shinde toured various classrooms and educational spaces within the Centre, engaging with special teachers, students, and parents. The emotional testimonies of ten parents present at the event highlighted the transformative impact of the Centre on their children's lives. Many parents expressed their gratitude, with some moved to tears, acknowledging the positive changes in their children's behaviour due to the centre’s innovative approaches.
The initiative to celebrate Diwali with disabled children was warmly received, providing comfort and joy to families and reinforcing the importance of inclusion and support for all members of the community during the festive season.
