In light of the upcoming Lok Sabha General Election 2024, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Kailas Shinde, has issued stringent directives to ensure the rigorous enforcement of the model code of conduct. Addressing departmental officers and commissioners from all eight divisions, Dr. Shinde emphasized the critical importance of upholding the code of conduct without exception.
In a comprehensive overview provided during a recent meeting, Dr. Shinde outlined key measures to be implemented to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process:
Equal Treatment for Billboards: Emphasizing fairness, all permissions for billboards must adhere strictly to the model code of conduct, ensuring impartiality in their allocation.
Regulation of Campaigning Grounds: Similar standards must be applied to the provision of grounds for campaigning activities, with unauthorized hoardings, banners, and flags strictly prohibited. Legal recourse will be pursued for any violations uncovered.
Scrutiny of Private Advertisements: Advertisement displays by private organizations should be scrutinized, with unauthorized placements promptly removed.
Coverage of Inaugural Events: Inaugural and commencement ceremonies must comply with regulations, with careful attention to ensuring that cornerstones are adequately covered.
Dr. Shinde directed all departmental officers to conduct thorough self-inspections at the regional level to ensure compliance with these directives. Additionally, stringent measures were mandated to prevent unauthorized displays on NMMT buses and bus stations, with clear instructions for enforcement.
In a concerted effort to bolster voter turnout, Dr. Shinde underscored the importance of public awareness initiatives. Measures include establishing voting awareness rooms at divisional offices to educate citizens on voting procedures, polling stations, and voter identification. Furthermore, proactive engagement with communities, industrial groups, and residential areas was encouraged to disseminate voting information effectively.
To reach a wider audience, comprehensive awareness campaigns will utilize various media platforms, including social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Additionally, audio instructions will be broadcasted on NMMT buses to reinforce voter education efforts.
Regarding polling station preparations, Dr. Shinde emphasized the need for facilities compliant with accessibility standards set by the Election Commission. Provision of amenities such as water, electricity, toilets, and ramps, along with the availability of wheelchairs, was highlighted as essential for ensuring inclusive participation.
The meeting concluded with a comprehensive review conducted by Dr. Shinde, emphasizing the accountability of department heads and officers in executing these directives effectively.
